Deeper Into Situbondo
A long stretch of white sand beach with calm waters, lined with shady trees and basic warung food stalls. Locals come here to swim or relax on weekends.
🕐 6am–6pm daily
💡 Arrive before 9am on weekdays to have the beach nearly to yourself. Bring your own mat and sunblock – there’s little shade near the water.
A small local museum housed in a former Dutch colonial building, with exhibits on Situbondo’s history, traditional costumes, and agricultural tools. Not exhaustive but gives a solid overview.
🕐 8am–3pm Mon–Sat
💡 Entrance fee is roughly 5,000 IDR (about 30p). The curator often gives a free guided tour if you ask nicely. Closed on Sundays.
Final Favourites & Departure
A tiered waterfall in a forested ravine, about 15m high with a deep, swimmable pool at the base. The walk down takes 20 minutes on a steep path with wooden step
💡 Go after a rainy day to see the waterfall at full flow. Entry is 5,000 IDR per person. Wear sturdy sandals – the path is slippery when wet. Bring insect repellent.
Getting Around Situbondo
Gojek and Grab work reliably within town. For a short hop from the bus or train station, use a motorbike taxi (ojek) which is faster and costs around 8,000 IDR. Always confirm the hotel location on the app first—drivers sometimes miss the Rest Area if you just say 'Situbondo'.
This is a slow local train with open windows, best for budget travel. Bring your own snacks and water—the station vendors are basic. From Situbondo station, take a becak (cycle rickshaw) for 10,000 IDR to the hotel.
Book a fixed-price taxi at the airport counter to avoid haggling. The journey takes about 3 hours along the north coast road—request a driver who knows the Rest Area stop, as it's just off the main highway.
Catch a bus heading east toward Banyuwangi. Ask the driver to drop you at Rest Area Utama Raya, which is a well-known stop. Morning buses are less crowded and cooler.
