Things to Do in Nagercoil

Ancient stone temple dedicated to the goddess Bhagavathy, built around 1000 years ago. Intricate carvings and a quiet courtyard, typical of Chera-style architecture.

💡 Go just after 6am when the morning puja ends – the incense and lamp lighting create a calm atmosphere with few visitors.

Well-preserved 16th-century wooden palace, former seat of the Travancore royal family. Murals, durbar hall, and secret tunnels – all intact, never rebuilt.

💡 Hire an ASI guide at the ticket counter. They know the hidden passage behind the queen's bedroom. Rs 30 extra, worth it.

Portuguese-era church built in 1600s, with a whitewashed facade and wooden altar carved from single jackfruit tree. The bell tower has a slight tilt.

💡 Visit during the evening mass at 5:30pm on weekdays – the choir sings in Tamil and Malayalam. No photography inside during prayers.

Small but active wetland on the edge of town, home to kingfishers, herons and migrating ducks in winter. A single raised walkway through reeds and water lilies – takes 20 minutes to walk.

Scenic cliff-top spot where the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean meet. Ferry across to Vivekananda Rock Memorial – cheap boat ride with stunning sunrise views.
