Things to Do in Izmit

An early 20th-century clock tower in the main square, built by the Ottoman governor. It's the city's symbol, surrounded by cafes and pedestrian streets.

💡 Go at dusk when the tower lights up and locals gather for evening walks. Nearby vendors sell cheap simit and tea.

Housed in a restored 19th-century building, this museum covers Izmit's industrial and social history with photos, models, and old shop displays. Free entry.

💡 The rooftop terrace is often overlooked but gives a decent view of the city and the gulf. Visit on weekday mornings for fewer visitors.

A large green space with walking paths, fountains, and shaded benches along the waterfront. Good for a picnic or a break from the city noise.
