Day 2

Deeper Into Izmit

Morning
Sultan Orhan Gazi Park

A large green space with walking paths, fountains, and shaded benches along the waterfront. Good for a picnic or a break from the city noise.

🕐 Always open

💡 Bring your own snacks; the only cafe on site is overpriced. The far end near the marina has quieter spots with sea views.

Midday
Sümbül Efendi Mosque and Complex

A 15th-century Ottoman mosque with a small courtyard and tomb of the founder. It's less touristy than others and retains original stonework and tiles.

🕐 Generally open daylight hours; non-Muslims welcome outside prayer times

💡 Respect prayer times — avoid visiting during Friday noon prayers. The adjacent hamam (bathhouse) is ruinous but photogenic from outside.
