Things to Do in Hervey Bay

Small, grassy park near the marina with picnic tables, BBQs and a children's playground. Good for a relaxed lunch with bay views.

💡 Buy fish and chips from the nearby marina shops and eat here. Watch out for swooping magpies in spring.

Flat, paved walking and cycling path along the Esplanade from Torquay to Point Vernon, passing beaches, park benches and public art. 5 km each way.

💡 Start at the Torquay end for the best views. Take water — few drinking fountains along the route. Good for sunset strolls.

Peaceful 26-hectare gardens with themed sections including rainforest, tropical shrubs and a lagoon with boardwalks. Good for a couple of hours' quiet wander.

💡 Bring insect repellent for the mangroves, especially at dusk. The café near the entrance does decent coffee but closes at 2pm.

Long wooden pier stretching nearly a kilometre into the bay. Popular for walking, fishing (no licence needed) and spotting turtles and rays in the clear water.

💡 Go at low tide to see marine life clearly from the pier. Best light for photos is early morning. Free parking at the base.

Open-air museum with 20+ restored buildings from the 1800s–early 1900s, including a schoolhouse, church and blacksmith shop. Cost is $10 adults, well worth it.
