Things to Do in Barddhaman

A monumental arched structure built in 1903 to commemorate the visit of Lord Curzon, with Indo-Saracenic design elements including pointed arches and ornate stonework. It sits at a busy roundabout in the old town.

🕐 Always visible from the street, no access inside

💡 The gate is best photographed between 4pm and 5pm when the traffic is lighter and the sun hits the western side. No entry inside, just admire from the pavement.

A well-maintained public park with large lawns, a small lake with paddle boats, walking paths, and a bandstand. Families gather in late afternoons. Entry is free, boat rides cost ₹10 per person.

💡 Bring your own water and snacks — the lone tea stall near the gate is overpriced. Best time is 4pm to 6pm when the heat drops and local kids play cricket.

A large 17th-century temple complex dedicated to the goddess Durga, featuring intricate terracotta work on the walls and a tall spire. The main temple is surrounded by smaller shrines and a quiet courtyard.

💡 Visit early morning, around 6am, when the temple opens and the light is soft on the carvings. Weekdays are far calmer than Sundays.

The former royal palace of the Barddhaman Raj family, now partly a museum and partly government offices. The main Durbar Hall has faded grandeur, with stained glass, chandeliers, and portraits. Entry ₹20 per person.

💡 The museum section is small but the courtyard and outer walls are free to wander. Ask the caretaker to show you the old armoury — sometimes he'll open it for a small tip.

A small but interactive science museum with hands-on exhibits on physics, biology, and space. Includes a 3D theatre and a planetarium shows on weekends. Entry costs about ₹20 for adults, children cheaper.
