Getting Around Attapeu
Flag one down on the main road; they’re blue or white pickups. The guesthouse is on the river road—tell the driver 'Putsavanh' and they'll know it.
Negotiate before you get in—15,000 is fair for a short hop within town. For longer rides to the Mekong viewpoints, agree to 50,000 for a round trip with wait time.
Book through the guesthouse for a fixed rate. The road is winding—sit in the front if you get car sick. Drivers often stop at the That Fane viewpoint, so ask.
Buy your ticket a day ahead—seats fill with local commuters. The VIP bus has AC and reclining seats. Take the 9 AM bus to arrive with time to check in before dusk.
