Arrive & Explore the Highlights
The city's main neo-Gothic cathedral with two tall spires. Free to enter and explore the interior, including the treasury for a small fee.
🕐 10:00-17:00 Mon-Sat, 13:00-17:00 Sun
Free entry💡 Visit late afternoon when the sun lights the stained glass windows from inside. The square outside has no shade so bring water.
Hotels near Zagreb Cathedral →The main open-air farmers' market on a raised square above the main square. Stalls sell fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers, and local honey. Free to wander and browse.
🕐 07:00-15:00 Mon-Sat, 07:00-13:00 Sun
Free entry💡 Go before 11am for the best produce. Try the 'strukli' from a bakery stall – a savoury pastry costing about €2. No haggling expected.

Deeper Into Zagreb
A large 19th-century park with lakes, woodland paths, and a small zoo (fee applies for zoo). Perfect for a relaxed walk or picnic away from the city noise.
🕐 Open 24 hours
💡 Bring your own food. The park café is overpriced and average. Enter from the main gate near Maksimir tram stop.
A museum displaying personal objects left over from ended relationships, each with a short story. Entry is about €6, which is cheap for a museum this original.
🕐 09:00-21:00 daily
💡 Go on the first Wednesday of the month for half-price entry. The museum shop sells quirky souvenirs you won't find elsewhere.
Trattoria Canzona
Cavalino
Final Favourites & Departure
Famous for its colourful tiled roof showing the Zagreb and Croatia coats of arms. Entrance is free, but often closed to visitors as it's an active church.
💡 The roof is best viewed from the steps of the Croatian Parliament building opposite. Go early to avoid crowds in the small square.

Getting Around Zagreb
Hostel Fancy is a 5-minute walk from the square. Buy a ticket from the yellow kiosk (Tisak) before boarding; validated on board.
Good backup if you land at local bus stop near Velika Gorica (cheap hotels). Walk 5 mins uphill from square to Hostel Fancy.
Use the official taxi queue outside arrivals; avoid drivers who approach you inside. Uber works well here too and costs about €18–22.
Buy the ticket at the kiosk just outside arrivals, not from touts. It drops you a 10-minute walk from Hostel Fancy, near the bus station.
