Things to Do in Zabljak

Small, tidy park in the town centre with benches, a children's playground, and a war memorial. Good spot for a break after buying supplies.

💡 The park has a public water fountain with drinkable spring water — fill your bottle before heading out on longer hikes.

Glacial lake at the foot of Mount Međed, surrounded by dense pine forest. A 3.5km walking trail circles the water, with benches and small wooden piers.

💡 Walk clockwise from the main entrance — you'll hit the quieter southern shore first, away from the tour groups.

Small exhibition hall with maps, photographs, and taxidermy of local wildlife — brown bears, wolves, chamois, and eagles. Also has toilet facilities and a free drinking water tap.

Start of the hiking route to Montenegro's highest peak (2523m). The first 2km through beech forest and scree fields are free and offer wide views of the Durmitor massif without requiring a guide or permit.

💡 You don't need to summit — the alpine meadow at 1.5km is a great picnic spot with views of the entire valley. Wear proper shoes; the scree gets loose after rain.

Bridge spanning the Tara River canyon — one of Europe's deepest gorges. The bridge itself is free to walk across; the viewpoint at the north end gives a clear drop of over 500 metres.

💡 Go before 9am or after 5pm to avoid bungee-jumping crowds. The bungee platform costs €45, but the view from the bridge is just as good for free.
