Getting Around Waikkala
Take bus 187 or 190 from the airport to Negombo bus stand (40 min, 50 LKR). Then switch to bus heading north on the Colombo–Chilaw road; ask for ‘Waikkala junction’. The junction is a 10-minute walk from the guest house. Buses run till about 9pm but frequency drops after 7pm.
For short local trips – like from the bus stop or beach – a tuk-tuk won’t cost more than 300 LKR. Stick to drivers who agree a price before starting; many near the junction are fair. The guest house is 800m off the main road, so walking is fine in daylight but a tuk-tuk is worth it after dark.
Best for a scenic, cheap ride along the coast. From the airport, take a tuk-tuk to Negombo station (15 min, 600 LKR). The Waikkala station is 1.5 km north of the guest house – easy walk or short tuk-tuk. Check the online Sri Lanka Railway timetable in advance; delays are common.
Ask the guest house to arrange the transfer. They’ll send a driver who knows the sandy side roads near the property, costing roughly 6000–8000 LKR one way. Avoid tuk-tuks from the airport – they’re cheaper but cramped for luggage and take longer.
