Arrive & Explore the Highlights
One of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe, with a stunning courtyard complex of 13 courtyards, arcades, and a grand library facade. Entry to the courtyards is free.
🕐 Courtyards open daily 08:00-20:00; library exhibitions 10:00-18:00 (closed Sun/Mon)
Free entry💡 Enter through the main gate on Universiteto Street and explore all 13 courtyards — each has a different character. The library's rare book room requires a ticket, but the courtyards alone are worth the visit.
Hotels near Vilnius University Ensemble →The surviving tower of the Upper Castle, with a small museum inside and panoramic views over the Old Town from the top. The climb is steep but short.
🕐 Daily 10:00-21:00 (May-Sep); 10:00-18:00 (Oct-Apr)
Free entry💡 Go just before sunset for quieter crowds and warm light. The museum part is small; the real draw is the viewpoint.

Deeper Into Vilnius
A well-kept public park along the river, with flower beds, fountains, a small playground, and benches. Good for a quiet walk or picnic under old trees.
🕐 Daily 06:00-22:00
💡 Bring bread for the swans and ducks on the pond. The café at the park entrance has decent coffee and is cheaper than Old Town joints.
A self-declared independent district with its own constitution, president, and anthem. A quirky, artsy neighbourhood with street art, small galleries, and a bohemian vibe.
🕐 Always open
💡 Read the Constitution Wall on Paupio Street. Visit on April 1st for Užupis Independence Day celebrations with free events and chaos.

Final Favourites & Departure
Former KGB headquarters turned museum, documenting Soviet occupation and repression. Grim but essential for understanding 20th-century Lithuanian history.
💡 Free entry on the first Sunday of every month. Arrive early; queues can be long. The basement cells are the most chilling part — skip the overly curated top floor if short on time.

Getting Around Vilnius
Buy a 30-minute ticket (0.65€) at a newsstand or via the Trafi app. Take bus 2 to 'Šeškinė' stop, then switch to trolleybus 7 towards Pašilaičiai—the hotel is a 2-min walk from the 'Pašilaičiai' stop. Validates on the bus by scanning the QR code near the door.
Buy a 1-hour ticket (1€) from the machine at the airport stop. Get off at 'Pašilaičiai' stop, then walk 5 minutes. Avoid the express bus if you have heavy luggage—no designated luggage rack.
Only runs after midnight—check the schedule on judru.lt. The stop is the same as daytime buses, but the route is slower. Take a taxi if it's below zero and you're waiting more than 20 minutes—the shelter at the airport stop is open-sided.
Always use the app to avoid haggled prices. The ride share pickup zone is signposted just outside the arrivals hall. A trip from the airport to the hotel is about 12 km—traffic is light outside rush hours (7:30–9am, 5–6pm).
