A small waterfront garden with benches, palms, and a view over the Ave River towards the fishing boats. Quiet, shaded, and a good spot for a picnic lunch from the nearby market. Free.

💡 Bring binoculars — the marsh on the far bank often has herons and egrets. Best visited late afternoon when the sunlight softens and the river breeze picks up.

A wide, sandy beach with a historic fort at one end and a long wooden pier. Safe swimming and good for a quiet walk. Free year-round; no sunbeds or umbrellas for hire.

💡 Walk south along the beach at low tide to reach the old shipwreck timbers — they’re a great photo backdrop and often ignored by tourists.

An outdoor heated seawater lido with two large pools, a kids’ area, and sunbathing lawns. Entry is €2.50 for adults, which is very reasonable for a full day of swimming.

💡 Bring your own towel and a lock for the changing-room lockers — they charge €0.50 for a token. Weekday afternoons are much quieter than weekends.

A 16th-century parish church with a striking Manueline doorway and a single bell tower. Inside, the painted wooden ceiling and three altarpieces are worth a look. Free to enter.

A 14th-century Gothic monastery with cloisters and a church, overlooking the Ave River. Free to wander the grounds and cloisters; the small museum section has a modest fee.

💡 Go early in the morning — the light through the stained glass in the church hits the cloister columns beautifully, and you’ll mostly have it to yourself.
