Things to Do in Taree

Paved path that follows the Manning River from the town centre past mangroves and a small beach. Benches and picnic tables at intervals. Good for walking, cycling, or just sitting.

💡 Start at the Fotheringham Park end for the best views of the river. Go in the early morning to spot pelicans and egrets feeding. Watch out for the very active flying foxes in summer.

Undeveloped bushland reserve on the edge of town with fire trails through eucalyptus forest and paperback swamp. No facilities, just tracks. Birdlife includes kingfishers and yellow-tailed black cockatoos.

💡 Wear sturdy shoes and bring water—the trails are not marked. Enter from the western end of Pyne Street. Mosquitoes can be bad after rain, so bring repellent. It's a 30-minute walk from town centre.

War memorial with a bronze soldier statue and honour rolls, set in a small grassy park with benches and a gazebo. Overlooks the Manning River and a footbridge.

💡 Best for a quiet picnic lunch—the gazebo has shade and a view of the bridge. Visit on Anzac Day (25 April) for the dawn service, which draws a big local crowd and is genuinely moving.

Small museum in the original 1913 station building. Displays of old railway photos, signals, uniforms, and a model train layout. Run by volunteers, with a restored station master's office.

💡 The volunteer staff are very knowledgeable—ask about the 1978 flood that nearly washed the station away. Open only on Saturday mornings, so plan accordingly. No toilet on site.
