Things to Do in Talamanca

A small daily market run by Bribri and Cabécar artisans. You can buy hand-woven baskets, carved wooden bowls, and medicinal herbs. No pressure to buy.

💡 Go on Saturday morning when more vendors show up. Prices are fixed but fair – don't haggle. Ask about the plant remedies; they'll explain uses without selling hard.

A wide, quiet stretch of dark sand beach on the Caribbean coast, backed by coconut palms. Good for long walks and spotting howler monkeys in the trees. Surf can be strong; not great for swimming.

💡 Go at sunrise when the sand is cool and you might have the whole beach to yourself. Bring bug spray for sandflies.

A rocky cove with calm tidal pools at low tide, sheltered by coral rock formations. The beach is small and rarely crowded. Good for kids and casual snorkelling in the pools.

A protected coastal rainforest with a 8km white-sand beach trail. Snorkelling off the Punta Cahuita reef is decent with calm conditions. Entry is donation-based for foreign visitors.

💡 Take the bus from Talamanca town centre for 500 colones (about $1) rather than a taxi. Bring snorkel gear from town – rental on site is expensive and poor quality.

A small bird sanctuary with a short trail through secondary forest. Entry costs 1000 colones ($2). You'll see toucans, motmots, and sometimes sloths in the trees. No guided tour needed.
