Things to Do in Shimla

A pedestrian-only stretch running through the heart of Shimla, lined with shops, cafes, and colonial-era buildings. It's the main social hub.

💡 Start from the Scandal Point end and walk south. Stop at the Indian Coffee House (first floor) for a cheap filter coffee and people-watching. Best time is late afternoon.

A large open space in the centre of Shimla, with views of the surrounding mountains and the neo-gothic Christ Church. Locals and tourists gather here for walks and to watch the sunset.

💡 Go early morning before 8am to avoid crowds and see the Himalayan peaks clearly, especially in winter.

Built in 1857, this is one of the oldest churches in North India. Its pale stone and stained-glass windows are worth a look inside.

💡 Attend the Sunday service at 9am for a quiet, atmospheric visit without other tourists. Photography inside is restricted.

A hilltop Hanuman temple at 2,455 metres, reached by a steep footpath through forest. The 108-foot statue of Hanuman is visible from much of the town. Monkeys are everywhere.

💡 Carry water and snacks. The climb takes 30-40 minutes from the Ridge, and views of the entire valley are spectacular. Watch your belongings with the monkeys. No entry fee, but offerings cost extra.

A small museum showcasing Himachal's history, art, and culture. Exhibits include Pahari miniature paintings, traditional costumes, and archaeological finds.

💡 Cheap entry at ₹10 for Indians, ₹25 for foreigners. Visit on a weekday morning when it's quiet. The museum closes for lunch 1-2pm.
