Things to Do in Schleiden

A flat, paved riverside path along the Rur River through central Schleiden. Benches, picnic spots, and good birdwatching.

💡 Walk east from the town bridge towards the weir – the path is quieter and you’ll see kingfishers early morning.

A large beech forest nature reserve with marked hiking trails, a treetop walkway (paid), and observation towers. Free access to the forest itself.

💡 Park at the 'Kermeter' car park near the national park centre, then walk the short loop to the 'Hirschley' viewpoint for views over the Rur dam.

A working Salvatorian monastery with a Romanesque basilica and cloisters. Free entry to the church and grounds; the adjacent museum and shop cost a small fee.
