Things to Do in Riva del Garda

A restored 16th-century Venetian fortress on a hill overlooking the town. Free to walk around the exterior and the gardens. The interior has a seasonal exhibition that sometimes charges a small fee.

💡 Climb up the ramp path from Via Monte Oro — the view from the parapet across the lake is better than the one from the tower top, and you avoid the stairs.

A public pebble beach with grassy areas, free access (the lido section with sunbeds costs). Good for swimming and sunbathing. Popular with locals on hot afternoons.

💡 Go late afternoon for the best light and fewer crowds. Bring water shoes — pebbles get hot and are hard on bare feet.

A paved lakeside path stretching from the port to the Punta Lido park area. Benches, shade from pine trees, and clear views across the lake to Monte Baldo. Good for a stroll or jog.

💡 Best in early morning or at sunset. The stretch near the sailing club has fewer people and a small free pier where you can sit with your feet in the water.

Wander the narrow cobbled streets around Piazza III Novembre, with the Torre Apponale clock tower, the 13th-century Piazza del Duomo, and the port area. No admission needed.

💡 Go early morning before shops open — you get the place mostly to yourself and see the lake light from the east.

A small free military museum inside a former Austro-Hungarian fort, perched on Monte Brione. Exhibits on WWI history and local fortifications. Good views over the lake.

💡 The walk up from the trailhead at Via Monte Brione takes 25 minutes and is steep in parts — pack water and wear sturdy shoes. Open only Saturday mornings in low season.
