Weekend in Ratchaburi

A limestone hill park with cave temples and a large seated Buddha. The caves have stalactites and small shrines inside. The park also has a small lake and walking paths.

Tip: Go early in the morning to avoid heat and crowds. Bring good shoes for the uneven cave floors and wear long trousers to protect against mosquitoes inside the caves.

Tip: Take the ferry from Ban Pae pier (30 baht each way). Bring your own food and water as the only cafe charges a lot. The rabbits are most active in the late afternoon.

A famous canal market where vendors sell fruit, souvenirs and noodles from boats. Busy but authentic atmosphere. The market itself has no entry fee; you only pay for boat rides or food.

Tip: Take a local bus from Ratchaburi city for 30 baht instead of pricey tours. Visit before 08:00 to see locals doing actual shopping, then it turns into tourist frenzy by 10am.

A compact museum in a colonial-style building. Exhibits cover local history, archaeology and ceramics from the region. Well laid out with English labels on most items.

Tip: Entry is 30 baht. The upstairs gallery has a good collection of ancient pottery that most visitors miss. The museum gets very hot by midday — come in the morning.

A temple museum housing more than 300 antique shadow puppets (nang yai) made from buffalo hide. The puppets date back 200 years and are still used in performances. Small fee for entry.

Tip: Entry costs only 20 baht. Ask the monk on site if they can demonstrate moving a puppet — often free and fascinating. The shadow show happens only on weekends, typically 13:00-15:00.
