Things to Do in Qusar

A compact, leafy square with benches, a war memorial, and a small fountain. Locals gather here for chess and tea in the afternoons.

💡 Come at dusk — the park lights up with coloured LEDs and families bring snacks. The best samovar tea is at the stall near the north gate, 1 AZN a cup.

A vast alpine park with hiking trails, rivers, and dramatic mountain scenery. Entry costs a small fee; cheap shared taxis from Qusar town run regularly.

💡 Skip the paid cable car at the resort zone. Walk the old Soviet forestry track from the main gate — it's quieter and free.

A small two-floor museum in a Soviet-era building. Exhibits cover local Lezgin culture, artefacts from the Caucasus campaigns, and traditional carpets.

💡 Ask the curator to unlock the rooftop — the view over the mud-brick rooftops to the mountains is worth the climb. Donations accepted but not required.

An 18th-century stone mosque with a single minaret, hidden in the older upper quarter. The interior is plain but the carved wooden mihrab is original.

💡 Wear socks — you must remove shoes. If the door is locked, ask at the bakery next door; the baker keeps the key. Best light for photos is 3pm.

A short, steep path through hazel woods to a 15-metre cascade. Used by shepherds for generations. No facilities — bring water and sturdy shoes.

💡 Go early (by 8am) to avoid the tour minibuses. The turn-off is just after Laza village petrol station — look for the red-painted boulder. A 40-minute walk down, 50 back up.
