Things to Do in Port Blair

The main local market area around the clock tower. By day it's a bustling street of fruit stalls, spice shops and fishing gear; by evening it becomes a lively promenade along the marina with food stalls selling grilled fish and local snacks.

💡 Come on a Friday evening when street performers often appear. Bargain firmly but politely at the stalls – prices are higher for tourists. Try the roasted coconut.

A former British prison and now a national memorial. Entry is free for Indian citizens (small fee for foreigners). The main building, watchtowers and museum tell the story of India's independence struggle.

💡 Go early morning to beat crowds and heat; the sound-and-light show in the evening costs extra but is worth it.

A waterfront park and sports area with a children's play zone, jogging track, outdoor gym and seating areas along the sea. Entry is free, and you can watch local families enjoying the evening air.

💡 Come around 16:00 for cooler weather and sunset views across the bay. The snack kiosks sell good coconut water and samosas.

Run by the Indian Navy, this museum covers marine life, local history and the region's geography. Has a large aquarium with tropical fish, a skeleton of a whale and exhibits on coral reefs.

💡 The entry fee is minimal (₹50 for adults). Go early; it gets crowded after 11am. The small souvenir shop sells decent shell crafts.

Small but informative museum run by the Anthropological Survey of India. Displays tools, clothing, photographs and artifacts from the indigenous tribes of the Andaman Islands, including the Jarawa, Onge and Sentinelese.

💡 Allow 45 minutes; the best bits are the life-size tribal dioramas upstairs. No photography allowed inside.
