Ostrava 3-Day Itinerary

A day-by-day plan for Ostrava: the best attractions in order, where to eat, how to get around — with free hotel briefings for your stay.

Day 1

Arrive & Explore the Highlights

Morning
Komenskeho Sady

Central park with formal gardens, a small lake, and a fountain. Good spot for a quiet walk or picnic. The paths are well-maintained and the benches are plentiful — locals read here in summer.

🕐 Open 24 hours

Free entry

💡 Bring your own snacks. The park cafe is overpriced for average coffee. Better to grab a pastry from Pekarna Pytlik nearby and sit by the fountain.

Afternoon
Dolni Vitkovice

Former industrial ironworks turned cultural zone. You can walk through the blast furnace complex, see the gas holder, and visit the science centre plaza for free. The massive machinery gives a raw sen

🕐 Outdoor area open 24 hours; Bolt Tower and exhibits closed Monday

Free entry

💡 Go during Bolt Tower's operating hours (11am–5pm) — you can't enter for free, but the panoramic view from outside the tower's base is still impressive and costs nothing.

Day 2

Deeper Into Ostrava

Morning
Landek Park

Open-air mining museum on the site of the oldest coal mine in Ostrava. Huge area with original headframes, steam engines, and a miners' settlement. Free entry to the park grounds and outdoor exhibits.

🕐 Park open daily 8am–6pm; museum buildings closed Monday

💡 Skip the paid underground tour unless you're a mining enthusiast. The outdoor area and the wooden church are the real highlights, and they cost nothing.

Midday
Stara Radnice (Old Town Hall Tower)

Historic town hall on Masaryk Square. The tower climb costs a few crowns, but it's the cheapest way to get a bird's-eye view of the city centre. The spiral staircase is narrow — 15 minutes up and down

🕐 Tuesday–Sunday 10am–6pm; closed Monday

💡 Buy your ticket at the tourist office on the ground floor, not from the automated machine upstairs — the machine sometimes overcharges by 10 CZK. Go on a clear day for views of the Beskydy mountains.

Day 3

Final Favourites & Departure

Morning
Ostrava Zoo

Large zoo on a wooded hillside. Admission is cheap by European standards (roughly 120 CZK). It's well-rated for its natural enclosures and breeding programmes.

💡 Take tram 3 from the city centre to 'Zoologicka zahrada' stop — it's direct and cheaper than the bus. The polar bear enclosure is best seen during feeding time at 2pm.
