Getting Around Ooty

Nilgiri Mountain Railway (Toy Train) From ₹136 270 min

Book class CC (Chair Car) online 30 days ahead on IRCTC — this steam train sells out fast. The final climb from Coonoor to Ooty is the most scenic. From Ooty station, it's a steep 15-min walk or ₹100 autorickshaw to Savoy.

Shared Sumo from Coimbatore From ₹200 210 min

These Mahindra Sumos seat 7-8 people and leave once full. Cheaper than private taxi but bumpy — negotiate a seat next to the driver for legroom. Exit at Ooty stand, then walk or take a shared auto to Savoy.

Coimbatore Airport Prepaid Taxi From ₹2500 180 min

Book a prepaid taxi from the kiosk inside the arrivals hall to avoid haggling. The drive via NH 181 and the Kalhatty Ghat road is shorter but winding — carry motion sickness pills if you need them.

Government Bus via Mettupalayam From ₹50 150 min

From Coimbatore, take any bus to Mettupalayam (₹50-60, 1 hr). Then board a blue TNSTC bus to Ooty — sit on the left side for valley views. The bus drops you at the Ooty stand, a 10-min walk to Savoy.
