Deeper Into Mukdahan
A peaceful temple complex with a striking white chedi and a small museum housing a collection of ancient Buddha images and local artifacts. The grounds are well-maintained and quiet.
🕐 Open dawn to dusk; museum typically 08:00–17:00
💡 The museum is often unlocked but ask the resident monk if you want to see the upstairs room—it contains a rare wooden Buddha carved from a single log that most tourists miss.
A low hill with a small chedi and a crumbling Khmer-era sanctuary dating from the 11th century. The site offers a modest view over town and the Mekong. Accessible by a short, steep stairway—free entry
🕐 Always open; recommended 06:00–09:00 or 16:00–18:00
💡 Combine with a visit to the nearby Wat Phutthawat on the same hill. Bring water and insect repellent; the trail can be overgrown in rainy season. The best light for photos is early morning (06:30).

Getting Around Mukdahan
Take the 07:00 or 13:00 bus for the best views of the Mekong. Bring a jacket — the aircon is arctic. From Mukdahan bus station, walk 5 minutes south to the main road and catch a songthaew for 20 baht to Rabiang Muk.
Hop on any red songthaew heading south on Phithak Phanomkhet Road — the hotel is on the riverside. Flag it down, tell the driver 'Rabiang Muk' and pay when you get off. No fixed stops.
Negotiate before you get in. 50 baht is standard for short town trips; don't pay more than 100 baht from the market or bus station. Tuk-tuks are rare after dark.
Book through your hotel in advance; the airport is small and taxis are scarce. Agree on the price before you get in — 800-1000 THB is fair.
