💡 Pick up the 'Mildura Walk Yourself Healthy' map – it details a free 2.5 km circuit of public art and historic buildings starting from the centre.

Gallery with a permanent collection of Australian works on paper (free to view) and rotating free exhibitions in the foyer and corridor spaces. The paid exhibition space changes monthly.

💡 Walk east along the river from the shopping district in the late afternoon – you'll see dozens of rainbow lorikeets come in to roost. Bring water and a hat, shade is patchy.

Unsealed riverside reserve with walking tracks through river red gums and wetlands. You can see kangaroos, emus and birdlife. No facilities beyond a basic carpark.

💡 Go at dawn or dusk – the mob of western grey kangaroos is often feeding on the open floodplain. Take insect repellent, and don't rely on phone reception beyond the turn-off.

Heritage-listed 1900s winery with sprawling lawns, mature gum trees and a gnarly old olive tree. You can wander the grounds and gardens without buying a tasting.

💡 Pack a picnic and sit under the big pepper tree near the dam – it's quiet midweek. Tastings are cheap (about $5) but you don't need to pay to enjoy the view.
