Things to Do in Manisa

A grand 16th-century mosque built by Hafsa Sultan, mother of Suleiman the Magnificent. Notable for its large central dome and two minarets. Nearby there's a lively bazaar.

💡 Combine with a visit to the adjacent Mesir Macunu festival site in March. The mosque's courtyard is a good spot for a rest.

A 16th-century Ottoman mosque and complex designed by Mimar Sinan. Includes a medrese and tombs, set in a quiet courtyard with fountains.

💡 Go early morning to see the intricate Iznik tiles in the prayer hall without crowds. The medrese now houses a small library.

Ruins of an ancient Aeolian city with a well-preserved agora, theatre and temple foundations. Set on a hillside with panoramic views. Less crowded than Ephesus.

💡 Entry is 10 TL. Take a taxi from Manisa (around 80 TL one way) or a minibus to the village of Köseler. Bring water and sun hat.

A large national park on Spil Mountain, with pine forests, walking trails, picnic spots and the famous 'Crying Rock' waterfall. Views over the Gediz plain.

💡 Take the dolmuş from the city centre to the park entrance (10 TL). Wear sturdy shoes for the 3km trail to the waterfall. Best in spring.

Housed in a restored Ottoman building, this museum displays artefacts from the ancient Lydian city of Sardis, including pottery, coins and sculptures.
