Things to Do in Manacapuru

A Catholic church built in the early 20th century with twin bell towers and a simple white façade. Inside, the altar is wooden and painted. Historical marker outside dates the original settlement.

💡 Mass is on Sunday at 8am – visitors are welcome. The church square has benches and a small playground; good spot for people-watching.

A long, paved riverside promenade along the Solimões River. Locals jog, fish and watch the ferries. Good spot for sunset views over the water.

💡 Come just before sunset when the heat drops. Vendors sell grilled cheese on sticks and fresh coconut water for pennies.

The main market in the town centre. Stalls sell regional fruits, fish caught that morning, spices and handmade crafts. The building has a distinctive blue facade.

💡 Go early (before 8am) to see the fish auction. Try a cup of açaí from the juice stall near the back – thicker and cheaper than in tourist areas.

Small museum with exhibits on Amazonian archaeology, indigenous artifacts, and local wildlife taxidermy. Housed in a former community centre near the lake. Free but donations encouraged.

A sandy river beach on the Amazon floodplain, popular with locals for swimming and weekend barbecues. Water is calm and brown from sediment. Basic facilities: shaded areas and a few kiosks.

💡 Check the river level before going – during the dry season (Aug–Nov) the beach is wide; in wet season it's submerged. Take a hammock for the trees.
