Things to Do in Liberec

A free municipal museum housed in a former textile factory, covering Liberec's industrial history, glassmaking and local culture. Small but well-curated with interactive exhibits for kids.

💡 It's closed on Mondays, and the temporary exhibitions upstairs sometimes have a tiny fee. Check the website before visiting for any special events.

A small Renaissance castle on a hill, also known as Liberecký zámek, with a 20-metre observation tower offering views over the old town. Entry to the tower costs just a few euros.

💡 Climb the tower at sunset for the best light. The castle courtyard is free to walk through and often hosts small markets.

A compact but well-designed botanical garden with a glasshouse complex featuring tropical, desert and Mediterranean zones, plus outdoor ponds and a Japanese garden. Cheap entry and quiet atmosphere.

💡 The orchid collection in February and March is especially good. The outdoor areas are free to wander; only the glasshouses charge entry.

The oldest zoo in the Czech Republic, founded in 1919. Specialises in big cats including white tigers, and has a large, walk-through aviary. Very affordable entry compared to Western European zoos.

🕐 Open daily: summer (March-October) 8:00-19:00, winter (November-February) 9:00-16:00.

💡 Go on a weekday morning to avoid crowds; the white tiger feeding is at 10:30 and 14:30. Buy tickets online to skip the queue.

A striking hyperboloid TV tower and hotel on top of Mount Ještěd, offering panoramic views across Liberec and the Jizera Mountains. Access is by cable car or a challenging hike; entry to the viewing platform costs a modest fee.

🕐 Cable car: daily 8:00-18:00 (times vary by season). Tower viewpoint: same hours, last entry 30 min before close.

💡 Avoid windy days; the cable car stops running above 15 m/s winds. For a cheap hike, take the blue trail from Horní Hanychov instead of paying for the cable car.
