Things to Do in Lefkada

The main square and waterfront of the old town, with a 19th-century clock tower, a few cafes, and narrow pedestrian alleys. Good for a slow wander and people-watching.

💡 The clock tower is free to climb (spiral stairs) and gives a decent view of the town and lagoon. Best at sunset. The nearby bakery sells decent kourkoubinia (fried dough balls) for €2.

A series of small waterfalls and pools in a wooded gorge near the village of Nydri. You can swim in the cool, clear water. The walk up is a dirt path with some rocky sections.

💡 Wear sturdy sandals or trainers – the path is slippery after rain. Go early to avoid the midday crowds. Bring a torch if you want to explore the small cave behind the main fall.

Small municipal museum in a modern building with finds from the island's ancient settlements – pottery, jewellery, and tools from the Classical to Roman periods. The collection is modest but well-labelled in Greek and English.

💡 Free entrance every first Sunday of the month. It takes about 40 minutes to see everything. The attendant can sometimes give a quick tour if you ask in Greek.

Historic monastery on a hill just north of town, with a small church, a courtyard, and views over the lagoon. The buildings date from the 18th century and the site has a calm, slightly faded feel.

💡 Go late afternoon for good light on the church interior and fewer visitors. The walk up from the main road takes about 20 minutes.

A pebble-and-sand beach on the west coast, with clear water and a shallow shelf. No sunbeds or umbrellas – bring your own. The road down is unpaved but fine for most cars.

💡 Better than the more famous Porto Katsiki if you want peace – it's rarely packed. There's a small seasonal kiosk for drinks and snacks in July and August, but bring water.
