Things to Do in Kanayannur

Ancient temple with traditional Kerala architecture. The main deity is Lord Shiva. Non-Hindus can enter the outer courtyard and observe rituals.

💡 Visit during the morning puja (around 7:30am) to see the temple come alive with bells and incense without the midday crowds.

Remains of a 16th-century Portuguese fort. Only the outer walls and a small watchtower survive, but the site offers clear views of the backwater junction.

💡 Combine with a visit to the nearby Syrian Christian church (300m north). The fort is unstaffed - no facilities, so bring water.

Working local market selling fresh spices, coir products, and vegetables. Narrow alleys lined with stalls. Good place to see daily life.
