Things to Do in Inverell

Housed in the old town hall, this gallery features rotating exhibitions from local and regional artists, plus a permanent collection of Australian works. Small but thoughtfully curated.

A beautifully preserved 1910 Carnegie library building with a dedicated local history room full of photographs, newspapers, and genealogical records. The main library is still in use.

A large recreational lake with a walking and cycling track around the perimeter, picnic areas, playgrounds, and a bird hide. Home to swans, ducks, and pelicans.

💡 The 3.5km loop path is flat and mostly shaded—good for a morning jog or a relaxing stroll. Bring bread for the ducks but check local rules first. Free electric barbecues near the main car park.

A short drive or steep walk up gives you a panoramic view over Inverell and the surrounding Macintyre River valley. There are shaded picnic tables and native birdlife.

💡 Visit just before sunset for the best light across the valley. The road is sealed but narrow—take it slow. No bins, so pack out your rubbish.

A large outdoor museum complex with original buildings, farm machinery, and household items from the 1800s to mid-1900s. You can wander through a blacksmith shop, general store, and old schoolhouse.
