Deeper Into Huarmey

Huarmey Beach (Playa Huarmey)

A long, grey-sand beach stretching several kilometres. Calm water for swimming, though not turquoise. Fishermen pull boats ashore in the mornings.

Mirador El Castillo

A rocky hill with a metal cross on top overlooking the town and coastline. A short, steep climb of about 200 steps. Views stretch from the Andes foothills to the Pacific.

Colectivo (shared taxi) from Huarmey to nearby towns From S/ 10 60 min

Cheaper and faster than buses for short hops. Squeeze into a 'Tico' for the Casma ruins (S/10, 45 mins). Hostal María is a 3-block walk from the plaza.

Airport Transfer from Lima (Jorge Chávez) From S/ 350 240 min

Agree a fixed price before you get in. The ride goes via Panamericana Norte; many drivers stop for ceviche in Casma if you ask.

Lima to Huarmey by Cruz del Sur or Movil Tours From S/ 40 240 min

Book the 'VIP' bus for reclining seats and AC; regular buses are cramped. Get off at the Huarmey toll booth and walk 10 mins to Hostal María — cheaper than a mototaxi from the terminal.

Local Mototaxi from Huarmey Terminal From S/ 5 5 min

Flag one down just outside the terminal door. Don't pay more than S/5 — locals pay S/3. Tell the driver 'Hostal María, frente al mercado' if they don't know the street.
