Things to Do in Ho

A lively daily market where you'll find fresh produce, cloth, and household goods. No entry fee, but you'll want small change for tomatoes, yams, or a fan ice (sachet water).

💡 Go on a Wednesday or Saturday when more vendors arrive. Haggle politely for cloth, but prices on food are fixed. Watch for pickpockets near the main entrance.

A community-run sanctuary about 18km north of Ho. Mona monkeys roam freely in the forest grove. Entry costs about 10 GHS for non-Ghanaians. The monkeys are habituated but wild.

💡 Bring bananas or groundnuts to feed them – buy at the entrance rather than pre-packed. Guides expect a small tip (around 5 GHS). Avoid wearing bright colours; the monkeys get nervous.

A striking white Catholic cathedral with twin spires and stained-glass windows. Built in the 1920s, it's the main landmark in Ho. You can walk around the grounds and inside when services aren't on.

💡 Go early morning around 7am to see the light through the windows without crowds. Watch your step on the uneven tiles inside.

A small public park near the centre with benches, shade trees, and a children's play area. Good for a quiet sit or a picnic. No facilities beyond bins.

💡 It's busiest around 4pm when school finishes. Come with a mat and buy kelewele (spiced fried plantain) from the vendors at the gate – 2 GHS a bag.

A two-hour drive from Ho, but worth it. The lower waterfall is a 45-minute walk; the upper requires a full-day hike with a guide. Entry costs 10 GHS for Ghanaians, 20 GHS for foreigners at the Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary.

💡 Bring water shoes – the rocks are slippery. The trail to the lower falls is easy, but hire a guide (30 GHS) for the upper. Visit on a weekday to avoid crowds.
