Things to Do in Heredia

Covered market dating from the 1880s, selling fresh fruits, vegetables, and local food. The narrow aisles are lined with sodas (small eateries) serving casados and chorreada.

💡 Head to Soda Doña Lola near the avocado stand for a chorreada (corn pancake) with natilla and fresh cheese—about 1,200 colones ($2). Try the sugarcane juice from the press at the back for 500 colones.

A small, squat stone fortress built in the 1870s with a single cannon re-created on top. It's now a municipal monument with a small garden and plaques. You can walk around it freely; the interior is closed to the public.

💡 Combine with the nearby Parque Hermosa for a shady walk. The best photos come from the south side in late afternoon, when the shadows highlight the stonework. No fee, no attendant, just a quick stop.
