Weekend in Gyeongju

How to spend 2 days in Gyeongju — a Friday-to-Sunday plan covering the highlights without the tourist-trap detours. Built from real attraction data.

Friday Evening

Arrive and Settle In

Friday evening is for arriving, checking in, and getting oriented. Keep it simple — a short walk to get your bearings, then dinner near the hotel.

Cheomseongdae Observatory

Free 1.0km from centre

The oldest surviving astronomical observatory in Asia, built in the 7th century. A stone structure standing 9 metres high. You can walk right up to it and see the construction meth

Tip: Go at sunset when the light hits the stones. The field around it is empty then and you get photos without crowds. The nearby hill gives a good overview.

Gyeongju National Museum

Free 1.5km from centre

Large museum housing Silla artefacts including gold crowns, pottery, and Buddhist sculptures. The outdoor garden has pagodas and stone lanterns. Well laid out with English labels.

Tip: The museum is free but you need a ticket for the special exhibition hall (usually 2,000 won). Give yourself at least two hours. The Gilt-bronze Maitreya statue in the main hall is worth stopping at.
