Deeper Into Gubbio
Wooded hillside park with marked trails leading through ancient olive groves and beech trees, with views over the Apennine valleys.
🕐 Open 24 hours
💡 Take the trail from the basilica to the Rocca Maggiore (ruins) — it adds 20 minutes but rewards with the best sunset panorama. No water fountains en route.
Gothic palazzo housing the civic museum with Gubbio's most famous treasure: the Eugubine Tables, seven bronze tablets inscribed in Umbrian and Latin.
🕐 09:00-13:00, 15:00-19:00 (closed Mondays in winter)
💡 Entry is €8, but the Palazzo dei Consoli's panoramic terrace is free. Skip the indoor galleries unless you want to see the Tables — the rest is filler.
Conte Fabiani
Osteria del Re
Final Favourites & Departure
Diocesan museum inside a former monastery, displaying Umbrian Renaissance paintings, including works by Ottaviano Nelli and the 14th-century Tadini altar.
💡 Entry is only €4. Ask the ticket seller to let you into the cloister garden — it's not signposted but is included in the ticket. Quietest at 11am before the tour buses.
Bar delle Logge
Bar Ducale
Getting Around Gubbio
Buy tickets at any tabaccheria (tobacconist) – they're cheaper there than on the bus (€1.50 driver surcharge). Get off at 'Sacro Cuore' church stop: hotel is 50m up the cobbled street to your left.
Trains to Gubbio are rare (only from Fossato di Vico or Perugia). Unless you're on a rail tour, the bus is more direct. If you do arrive by train, the taxi rank is by the station cafe – expect a surcharge after 20:00.
Get off at 'Gubbio Terminal' not 'Gubbio Stazione' – the latter is a 20-minute walk uphill from San Marco. Validate your ticket before boarding at the yellow machine on the bus.
Book a shared minibus (€30–40 pp) for cheaper transfers. Drivers will drop you at the hotel car park – ring ahead so they know you're coming.
