Things to Do in Giza

The 12th-century mosque is free to enter (modest dress required). The adjacent bazaar is a maze of alleys with cheap souvenirs and local eats. No entry fee for the market.

💡 Grab a mint tea at El Fishawy café inside the bazaar — it's a local institution and costs under 10 EGP. Haggling is expected, start at half the asking price.

The last surviving ancient wonder. The main complex costs 200 EGP to enter, but you can view the pyramids from the surrounding plateau for free. Arrive at dawn or dusk to avoid crowds.

💡 Don't pay for a camel ride from touts. Walk to the panoramic viewpoint for the best selfie spot without the rip-off.

A quiet public park in the old Coptic area of Cairo, near Giza. Green lawns, benches, and a view of the Citadel. Free entry. Locals picnic here on weekends.

💡 Combine with a walk through the neighbouring Coptic Cairo for free — check out the Hanging Church. Arrive before 10 AM for peace.

One of Africa's oldest zoos, opened in 1891. Entry is 5 EGP. It's a bit rundown but has wide grounds, old trees, and a few animals. Good for a cheap stroll away from traffic.

💡 Bring your own snacks — the on-site food is poor and overpriced. The best bit is the historic iron-and-glass orangery near the entrance.

The museum itself (when fully opened) costs 400 EGP, but the outdoor gardens and exterior zones are free and offer close views of the pyramids. The atrium with the colossal Ramesses II statue is visible from outside.
