Things to Do in Forster

A sheltered beach along the southern shore of Wallis Lake, protected from ocean swell. Calm water ideal for families with young children.

💡 The rock pool at the western end is warmer than the lake and great for toddlers. Arrive before 10am on summer weekends for a shady spot under the pines.

A large grassy park on the northern shore of the lake, with barbecue facilities, a children's playground, and a boat ramp. Views across to the main town.

💡 The free electric barbecues near the boat ramp are often less busy than those by the playground. Bring your own charcoal if you prefer a flame grill.

A paved 3 km walking and cycling path along the southern edge of Wallis Lake, from the bridge at Tuncurry to the surf club at One Mile. Benches and interpretive signs along the way.

💡 Start at the Visitor Information Centre carpark. The section between the breakwall and the yacht club catches the afternoon sea breeze and offers the best views of pelicans and cormorants drying on the rocks.

A wide, patrolled surf beach with a long stretch of sand and a small lake behind the dunes. Good for swimming, board riding, or just walking.

🕐 Open 24 hours; lifeguard patrol November to April, 9am–5pm daily

💡 Park at the northern end near the surf club for easier access to the patrolled area. The southern end can be quieter but has no lifeguards.

Small local museum in a former school building, covering Aboriginal history, early European settlement, and the timber and fishing industries. Exhibits include a restored 1920s launch and a dugout canoe.

🕐 Tuesday–Thursday 10am–2pm, Saturday 10am–1pm

💡 The museum is run by volunteers and often closes for lunch (noon–1pm). Check their Facebook page before visiting, as opening days can vary outside school holidays.
