Things to Do in Folgaria

A small 17th-century church with a frescoed wooden ceiling and a carved altarpiece. Quiet and usually empty.

💡 Look for the small plaque to the left of the altar—it marks where the original 1000-year-old linden tree stood before lightning struck in 1947.

A small volunteer-run museum in the town centre displaying WWI artefacts, uniforms and photographs from the Dolomites front.

💡 Free on Wednesdays; other days it's €2. The curator speaks English and German and will show you items not on display if you ask nicely.

A tiny 16th-century chapel on the edge of town, decorated with faded frescoes of saints and rural scenes. Often used for community events in summer.

💡 Check the noticeboard outside—on summer weekends they sometimes hold free folk music concerts in the square in front of it.

A large public park with a lake, walking paths, playgrounds and picnic spots. Good for a relaxed afternoon with views of the surrounding mountains.

💡 Head to the far end of the lake in late afternoon for the best light on the peaks—locals often go there to read or nap on the grass.

A well-preserved Austro-Hungarian fortress from World War I, with original tunnels, artillery positions and exhibits on alpine warfare.

💡 Entry is €5, but the outdoor parts (trenches, viewpoints) are free. Visit on the first Sunday of the month when guided tours are included in the ticket.
