Things to Do in Elbasan

A 15th-century Ottoman fortress enclosing a living neighbourhood. Walk the walls, see the original gates and the basilica ruins. The site is active, with houses, cafes and workshops inside.

💡 Enter from the south gate near Rruga Gjin Bue Shpata. Climb the wall near the clock tower for the best view over the city and the Shkumbin valley.

💡 Visit just before midday to hear the call to prayer echo through the old bazaar. No shoes inside—remove them at the entrance.

A restored 18th-century Ottoman stone bridge over the Shkumbin River, with seven arches. The surrounding park has benches and a walking path. Popular for evening strolls.

A flat, paved riverside walk stretching about 2 km east from Tabak Bridge. Lined with plane trees and benches. Locals fish here in the mornings; kids fly kites in the afternoons.

A small village-style house museum displaying traditional costumes, tools and furniture from central Albania. The courtyard garden is peaceful. Entry 100 lek (about £0.80).
