Best rooms
Ask for a room ending in 05–10 on floors 6 through 9. These face away from the street (usually a courtyard or air shaft) and avoid the worst of the constant sirens and traffic noise on avenues in Midtown Manhattan.
Ask for a room on floors 12–18 facing west (towards the Hudson) or east (into the interior courtyard). These floors are above street-level noise but not at the top where mechanical hum can be an issue.
Rooms to avoid
Rooms ending in 01–04, especially on floors 2–5. These are typically at the front of the hotel, directly over the street. In a 3-star chain like L Hotel, the windows are likely double-glazed but old; you'll hear garbage trucks at 5am and taxi horns all night.
Avoid any room ending in '01' through '06' – these are typically directly above the lobby bar and adjacent to the elevator banks. Also skip rooms on floors 2–5, which pick up street noise from the taxi drop-off and delivery trucks.
