Best rooms
Ask for an interior-facing room with a window onto the courtyard or lightwell. The rooms on the 6th to 10th floors in the rear wing (even-numbered rooms ending in 02–09) get the least street noise and some morning light.
Ask for a room on the 6th to 9th floor, rear-facing (e.g., numbers ending in 08-16 on higher floors). These are quieter, catch less street noise, and have a view over lower buildings in the East Village.
Rooms to avoid
Steer clear of rooms ending in 14–22, which are next to the lift shaft and housekeeping alcove. Also avoid ground-floor rooms and rooms on floors 2–3 – they pick up the full blast of lobby traffic and the occasional street disturbance.
Steer clear of rooms ending in 01-07 on floors 2-5; they face the street and get direct traffic noise from 2nd Avenue. Also avoid rooms near the lift bank on any floor.
