Request a room on the first floor or above to avoid ground-level dampness and street noise. Rooms at the back of the property are usually quieter than those facing the road.

Request a room on the second or third floor at the back of the building, away from the street. The upper floors get less foot traffic noise from the lobby and stairwell, and the rear orientation reduces the hum of motorbikes and taxis on the main road. In a 3-star property without a lift, these floors are manageable by stairs while still being quiet.

Avoid rooms directly above or next to the reception, restaurant or any communal areas, as they can be noisy during meal times and late evening. Ground-floor rooms near the entrance may also draw foot traffic.

Avoid ground-floor rooms facing the street. The entrance itself can be noisy with comings and goings, and the street-facing ground level picks up the most dust and exhaust fumes from Tolanaro's tuk-tuks and cars. Also skip any room directly above the reception or bar area, as sound carries up through the floor in older buildings.
