Request a room on the first floor at the rear of the building. The first floor avoids the steepest climbs (no lift, four floors), and a rear-facing room cuts out High Street pub and traffic noise from the front.
Request top-floor rooms in the rear wing, away from Farnham Road. Upper floors are quieter due to less footfall overhead.
Rooms to avoid
Avoid top-floor rooms (third floor). Without a lift, the narrow stairs are a real slog with luggage, and the historic building often has low ceilings and limited soundproofing at the top. Also avoid any room directly above the main entrance or facing High Street—street noise from a busy town-centre thoroughfare is a risk.
Rooms facing Farnham Road on lower floors (1st and 2nd) suffer from traffic noise, especially in mornings and evenings. Avoid rooms near the lift lobby on any floor.
