Best rooms
Request a room on the 4th or 5th floor facing the rear courtyard. These are furthest from Nakfa Avenue traffic and benefit from less footfall. The upper floors also get better cross-ventilation in Asmara's mild climate.
Request a room on the 3rd floor facing the inner courtyard. Those rooms get the most natural light and are furthest from street-level noise. The 3rd floor also means only two flights of stairs if the small lift is busy.
Rooms to avoid
Avoid rooms facing Nakfa Avenue directly, especially on floors 1-3. Street noise from buses, taxis and early-morning shop deliveries is constant. Also avoid rooms near the lift shaft on any floor — the old lift mechanism is audible on floors 2-3.
Steer clear of any room facing Mata Street on floors 1 and 2. These overlook a main through-road with motorbikes and honking from early morning. Also avoid rooms directly next to the lift shaft – the old lift mechanism is audible at all hours.
