Weekend in Chattogram

A small, leafy park on a low hill near the city centre. Has a few benches, a children's play area, and decent views over the lower parts of Chattogram.

Tip: Best early morning for a jog or late afternoon for the breeze. The walk up the hill is steep but short – wear comfortable shoes.

A compact museum showcasing the culture, clothing, and tools of the 11 main indigenous groups of Bangladesh. Small but well-arranged exhibits.

Tip: Don't expect English labels everywhere – ask the caretaker for a guided explanation. It's free but a small donation is appreciated.

A historic shrine complex dedicated to the 9th-century Sufi saint. Includes a large pond filled with black softshell turtles, which are considered sacred and fed by visitors.

Tip: Bring small coins to buy food for the turtles from vendors outside. Dress modestly – it's a religious site. The shrine itself is best visited early.

A long, sandy stretch at the mouth of the Karnaphuli River, where the river meets the Bay of Bengal. Good for evening walks and watching ships pass.

Tip: Go just before sunset to avoid the heat and crowds. Vendors sell fresh coconut water and roasted chickpeas for a few taka.

A man-made lake surrounded by green hills, built in the 1920s. The lake itself is free to walk around, but charged areas include a small amusement park and boat rides.

Tip: Skip the ticketed attractions and just walk the perimeter path. It's peaceful in the morning, and you'll see local families picnicking.
