ATMs (Bancomat) are the best way to get cash; avoid exchange bureaux at airports or train stations in big cities as rates are poor – use a bank ATM here.

Cards (Visa/Mastercard) are accepted almost everywhere, including supermarkets and restaurants; contactless and Apple/Google Pay work fine. Keep some cash for small village shops or markets.

Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated for good service – round up the bill or leave 5-10% for sit-down meals; taxis and hotel staff don't expect extra, but a small tip is fine.

Espresso or filter coffee from a bakery or café – around 4–5 CHF.

A sandwich or salad from a supermarket (Coop/Migros) or a bakery – around 8–12 CHF.

A main course at a casual pizzeria or restaurant – typically 20–30 CHF.

Not common; the cheapest eat-in option is a 'Mittagstisch' set lunch at a restaurant (around 15 CHF) or takeaway sausages from a kiosk.

Coop and Migros are the main supermarket chains; Aldi and Lidl are cheaper options nearby.

Bex has few shops – for budget high-street clothing head to Martigny (20 min train) where you'll find H&M, C&A, and Manor.

A day pass for the local bus network (e.g. Service Bex–Villars) costs around 8 CHF; from Geneva Airport take the direct train to Bex (approx 1h20, about 40 CHF one way) – buy a Supersaver ticket in advance for a better price.

Buy a Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card if staying several days; eat at supermarkets for lunch; fill a reusable water bottle at public fountains (tap water is excellent).
