Best Time to Visit Zakynthos
Zakynthos has a classic Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The tourist season runs from Easter to October, with everything from beach clubs to turtle tours shutting down entirely in the colder months.
✦ Go in late May for a balance of warmth and quiet, or early September for the best sea temperatures without the peak-season chaos.
✅ Best months
May and September. In May, the island is green and flowers are out, sea temperatures are cool but swimmable, and crowds are light. September has the same warm weather as August but with half the people and noticeably lower prices.
🔥 Peak season
July and August. Schools are out across Europe, so families flood in. Prices for mid-range hotels can double versus May. The main drivers are guaranteed 30°C+ heat, calm seas, and a packed schedule of boat parties and nightlife in Laganas.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
June and September. June is almost as hot as July but with cheaper flights and emptier beaches. September sees a sharp drop in crowds after the first week, and you can often negotiate walk-in rates at hotels.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
November to March. Most hotels, restaurants and tour operators close. Temperatures hover around 10–15°C and it rains roughly half the days. If you want solitude and cheap flights, it works, but expect shutters down everywhere.

Zakynthos Carnival (February/March) – a local parade with costumes and street parties. The Feast of Agios Dionysios (August 24) includes a procession with the saint's relics and a big village festival.
🧳 What to pack
Even in summer, bring a light waterproof jacket or windbreaker. Meltemi winds can kick up suddenly, and boat trips to the Blue Caves can get spray-soaked.
