Best Time to Visit Trat
Trat has a tropical monsoon climate with three distinct seasons. The best time to visit largely depends on whether you value dry sun or lower prices.
✦ Go in December or January for the best weather, but be ready for crowds and high prices; choose November or February for a good balance.
✅ Best months
December and January: sunny, low humidity, and calm seas for island hopping. February is also excellent with similar conditions and slightly fewer visitors.
🔥 Peak season
December and January: peak season for Trat and Koh Chang, with hotel prices doubling or tripling. Christmas, New Year, and Chinese New Year drive the crowds. Booking months ahead is essential.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
November: the tail end of the wet season still brings some rain, but prices drop sharply and the islands are lush. Also March, ahead of the hottest weather, with quieter beaches.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
June to October: the monsoon brings daily downpours and rough seas, with many ferry services reduced. It's the cheapest time, but you risk rain spoiling beach days and limited activities on the islands.
Trat season by season
Spring (Mar–May)
Weather: Hot and increasingly humid, with temps reaching 35°C by April. Occasional afternoon showers in May.
Crowds: Low
Good for budget travel before the rains, but be prepared for intense heat.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Weather: Wet season: frequent heavy rain, high humidity, and overcast skies.
Crowds: Very low
Cheapest time, but many services on islands are reduced. Only for those who don't mind daily rain.
Autumn (Sep–Nov)
Weather: September wettest month; October sees gradual improvement. November brings sunnier days and lower humidity.
Crowds: Low (Sep-Oct) to medium (Nov)
September stays quiet; November marks the transition to high season with better weather.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Weather: Dry, sunny, and warm (28-32°C). Low humidity and clear skies.
Crowds: Very high, especially December to mid-January
The most comfortable weather, but expect full hotels and premium prices.
🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Trat Boat Show in mid-February: a display of custom longtail boats. Also, the Koh Chang Triathlon in November draws athletes from across the region.
🧳 What to pack
Pack a lightweight rain jacket or poncho even in dry season – sudden tropical showers can appear without warning.
