South Sudan
Best Time to Visit Torit
Torit sits in the tropical highlands of South Sudan, so it stays hot year-round but has distinct wet and dry seasons. The best window is the dry months from November to February, when roads are passable and outdoor activity is manageable.
✦ Go in January for the driest, most comfortable weather and the chance to see the Cultural Day.
✅ Best months
December, January and February: these are the coolest and driest months, with daytime highs around 30°C and very little rain. Crowds are minimal, and travel around the region is straightforward.
🔥 Peak season
December and January: the dry weather and holiday period draw the most visitors. Hotel prices rise by roughly 20–30% from their low-season rates. No big festivals, but the UN and NGO schedule often picks up post-rainy season.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
November and March: November sees the end of the rains, paths drying out and prices dropping. March is still mostly dry, with fewer travellers than the peak months, and rooms are easier to negotiate.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
April to October is the rainy season. April and May can be very heavy; June to September the wettest. Roads turn to mud, some lodges close or reduce services, and temperature stays high. Good for extreme budget travel if you can handle the isolation and delays.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Torit doesn’t host large tourist festivals. The annual Torit Cultural Day (usually around January) includes local music, dance and food – it's a small, community event worth catching if you're in the area.
🧳 What to pack
Pack a lightweight, quick-dry shirt and trousers even in the dry season – you’ll want them for the sudden late-afternoon storms that can appear without warning.
