Best Time to Visit Tarma
Tarma sits high in the Peruvian Andes at just over 3,000 metres, which gives it a consistently cool, dry climate rather than distinct seasons. Most of the year is fine for visiting, but the best months balance clear skies, comfortable temperatures and few crowds.

May to August. These are the dryest months, with almost no rain, bright sunny days (18–22°C) and cold nights. Crowds are still moderate, especially outside the July Peruvian winter holidays.
🔥 Peak season
July. This is the main holiday month for Peruvians, so domestic tourism spikes. Hotels can be 30–50% more expensive and book out weeks ahead. The Fiesta de Santiago (last week of July) draws crowds with music, dance and bull-running.
💷 Shoulder (best value)
April and September. March sometimes works too. A good compromise: still mostly dry in April, and September often has stable weather. Rooms are 15–25% cheaper than in peak months, and you'll have the main square and nearby ruins more to yourself.
🌙 Quietest & cheapest
January to March (especially February). The rainiest period, with daily afternoon downpours and muddier trails. Some minor roads can get tricky. On the plus side, accommodation can be 40–50% cheaper than in July, and you'll see the landscape at its greenest.

🎭 Events worth timing a trip around
Fiesta de Santiago (last week of July) – Tarma's biggest party, with folk music, street parades and horse processions. Also Fiesta del Señor de los Temblores (March/April – movable) – a religious procession that marks Easter week.
